My client wanted to completely start over in order to transition this English Tudor River Oaks home from dated and traditional to bright and fresh. With dark mahogany millwork throughout, I started my process of lightening it up by working with my clients extensive art collection and adding pieces from there.
I relied on the color from the strong pieces of art and incorporated lighter fabrics and lighter rugs. On the second floor, we painted the millwork and did extensive work on the second primary bedroom, which included painting the cabinets, adding grasscloth, and hanging beautiful painted pieces to work against the dark wood to make it brighter. Standout original features of the home included the grand entrance hall, limestone floors, beams and stone throughout, as well as a wine cellar.

This renovation project highlights several key design elements that contribute to the overall aesthetic and functionality of the space. From the choice of materials to the layout, every aspect was carefully considered to enhance the home's character while providing modern conveniences.
Notable elements include the use of light colors in the primary bedroom to contrast the dark wood features, as well as the integration of grasscloth, which adds texture and depth. The limestone floors and original beams were preserved to maintain the home's historical charm, while contemporary art pieces were strategically placed to create focal points throughout the space.
One of the standout features of this project was the thoughtful integration of the client's extensive art collection into the design. Each piece was selected to complement the overall color palette and style of the home, ensuring that the art not only decorates but enhances the living environment.
For instance, the painted pieces hung against the dark wood in the primary bedroom serve to brighten the space and draw the eye, creating a harmonious balance between the home's architecture and the art. This approach not only personalizes the interior but also showcases the client's taste and passion for art.
Luxury interior design is not only about aesthetics but also about enhancing the functionality of a space. This project exemplifies how thoughtful design can improve daily living while maintaining a high-end look.
By reconfiguring the layout of the second primary bedroom and optimizing storage solutions, the renovation maximized usable space without compromising style. Features such as custom cabinetry and dedicated areas for both relaxation and work were integrated seamlessly, demonstrating that luxury can coexist with practicality.
